The client required a hi-tech home built of natural materials with timeless appeal. The Max Pritchard solution embraces design excellence, takes full advantage of the allotment, the adjoining park, the northerly aspect and a large existing eucalypt tree. From the front entry a long curved, central glass hallway reveals the extent of the design which has been masterfully constructed by the builder.

Outdoor Project

Judges
Comments
The outdoor living areas strongly influenced the design of this home. The kitchen flows out through cafe bifold glass doors onto a vine-covered timber deck with barbecue, sink fridge and a circular stone pizza oven. Views of the adjoining reserve can be enjoyed yet privacy maintained by discreet raised planter beds on the opposite side of the house. An eye-shaped pool mirrors the curve of the glass-walled gallery and provides reflected views from numerous rooms, while timber decking, lawns and large stone sculptures give an overall sense of serenity.

Most innovative use of steel
Commendation
Townhouse / Villa Project

Comments

An innovative design solution for these two holiday apartments resulted in two distinct living pavilions stepping up the steep sloping site. A protected central courtyard provides a sheltered outdoor living area and capitalises on the northern aspect.
This spacious residence captures the right feel for this environment. Complimented by the cascading roof design made from colourbond Ultra and supported by the use of steel concrete formwork, this home is both practicable and extremely attractive. The stainless steel railings provide the perfect trim for this year's winner of "The Most Innovative Use of Steel" Award.

A very good example of collaboration between builder and client to renovate a 1920's gentleman's bungalow and upgrade a poorly planned 1970's addition. The new kitchen and family area with coffered ceilings has internal warmth and a pleasant outlook.

The application of a pole-frame addition to the existing log cabin house fulfilled two functions by blending harmoniously the original house while at the same time providing a practical and workable solution to a steep sloping site.
A feature of this well blended addition was the use of curves as a theme throughout from the spiral staircase to the bowed roof iron and ceiling below which reflected the surrounding hillside.

A classy extension with excellent compatibility to the existing bungalow. The new kitchen/dine/family rooms have a warm ambience with excellent use made of ornate cornices, picture rails and period fire surround. Very well finished workmanship throughout.
